The online and open access journal, 19: Interdisciplinary Studies in the Long Nineteenth Century, publishes themed guest-edited issues. It does not invite unsolicited essays and all contributions to an issue are by invitation. Guest editors initiate and propose issue topics and oversee content and quality at every stage of the issue’s process. Guest editors submit issue proposals to the Advisory Board; identify and secure appropriate contributors and agree topics; and select peer reviewers. Guest editors also act as readers and provide editorial advice alongside the blind peer review. Guest editors contribute an Introduction and may also include an authored essay. In this latter case, the guest editor’s contribution is scrutinised by two other readers in the anonymous review process. Peer readers in this situation are chosen by a second guest editor and/ or the journal’s General Editor and/ or members of the Advisory Board.
