- The significance of this paper is in evaluating different excitation mechanisms for a problem that is still not fully understood and for which there are not simple solutions available. The work on curve squeal at the ISVR has led to invitation to a keynote lecture at the International Workshop on Railway Noise in 2016 and has supported the award of the IN2RAIL EU project (635900 - cgallais@systra.com) with total value to Southampton €326k. It has also led to consultancy activities, aimed at evaluating noise mitigation solutions, with London Overground (Jon Colclough – value £20k) and Axiomrail (Robert.Wheeler@axiomrail.com – value £26k).
