- The study developed a novel subsea flexible polymeric insulation material for subsea cables jointly funded by the Oil and Gas Innovation Centre and Technip FMC Ltd (A Deighton, alan.deighton@technipfmc.com), a leading manufacturer of subsea cables (Oil and Gas Innovation Centre, Project No. 114122). The project resulted in the successful development of a proof-of-concept novel polymer material for sheath in HVDC (high voltage direct current) subsea cables exploited by Technip Ltd and which allowed Robert Gordon University to develop a new technique to measure the electrical properties of materials sensitive to nanoscale changes.
