- This work has assisted Sellafield Ltd (contact details available) to assess the risk of a hydrogen gas explosion occurring due to mechanical stimuli. The importance of this work was recognised at the IChemE Global Awards 2015 (“Highly Commended” in the Process Safety category). The work has helped support a revolutionary breakthrough in the management of nuclear waste accelerating progress at Sellafield saving approximately GBP100,000,000 for cleaning up the site. It also helped to underpin LSBU’s ongoing research partnership (from 2012) to support Sellafield Ltd (GBP100,000/yr) which was renewed for five-years in 2019 (GBP500,000).
