- Supported by funding from the British Academy and other academic bodies such as the English Association, the MHRA and the Society for Italian Studies, Hiscock and co-organizers designed the programme for this sponsored conference by inviting an international team of acknowledged specialists to the event. For the subsequent publication sponsored by the Academy, Hiscock and co-editors then made a selection from conference participants and asked them to prepare submissions, liaising with fellow contributors in the preparation of the collection. The co-editors critically read each contribution suggesting refinements to the authors and then the chapters went out to an independent peer-review process for consideration. Thus, the publication is very much fulfilling the format envisaged by the co-editors (each being tasked throughout the process to liaise for a subset of contributors) and shaped by the editors’ critical introduction.”
