- This is a 92,000 word monograph. Research was conducted 2012-14. It examines the first attempt at securing a resolution to the Northern Ireland conflict. It is based on archives at the National Archives UK; the National Archives of Ireland; the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland; and the private papers of a member of the Provisional IRA. The study examines how the IRA demanded a British declaration of intent to withdraw from Northern Ireland. It also inspects why many of the elements in the 1998 Belfast Agreement were unacceptable in the 1973-74 power-sharing and Sunningdale Agreement.
