- This multi-volume, multi-author work was six years in preparation (2014-20), including further editing tasks to develop the digital version. It features 400 essay-length entries by eighty leading scholars; over 1,000,000 words in total. As joint editor, my responsibilities included collaborative planning of the work’s scope, content and authors; editing and copy editing more than a quarter of the content; and co-translating nearly seventy essays from French to English. As author I contributed substantial content (29 entries sole authorship, five entries joint authorship), much of which necessitated extensive new research; the essays address themes or individuals not covered in existing scholarship.

- Additional information
- This three volume publication is the definitive work of reference for the study of surrealism in all disciplines. The work was shortlisted in the reference category of Association of American Publishers 2021 Prose Awards and is the adopted text for the major Tate / Metropolitan Museum Global Surrealism exhibition (2021). Substantial essays (6,000 / 2,000 words) are contributed by over eighty leading scholars. Five international editors and four consultants shaped the project; after the general editor, Fijalkowski's was the largest contribution to editing and writing as sole author for thirty-four entries (60,000 words) and joint author for six entries (34,000 words).
There is also a digital version of the Encyclopedia, which came out after the print version, in 2020 - this isn't just a Kindle-style e-Book, but an 'interactive platform':
