- Standardization is key to future-proofing SCADA applications. The water sector has seen a lag in this respect due to business as usual operations that involve legacy equipment. As regulatory bodies start to impose stricter compliance measures on the water industry, the suppliers become more reliant upon their process data. This paper demonstrates how a water utility can employ a modular approach and proposes a standardization concept for SCADA assets across all business sectors. The originality is demonstrated by the novelty of the approach, by tackling water treatment, SCADA and telemetry and energy in a harmonized manner.
