- This is the product of ten years writing and research, involving interviews with global religious elites, and extensive fieldwork in a contested diocese abroad. Religious leaders from five continents were sampled for their positions on matters of dispute in the global Anglican Communion, often on the basis of recommendations from their colleagues (59 interviews, half interviewed remotely); leaders, particularly in the Global South and among conservative wings of the church were hard to reach. When we began our research, the use of Skype for interviews was a new method. The fieldwork included four congregation studies and 53 interviews in Pennsylvania.
