- This work was the first to demonstrate a bistable switch-like response in enzyme-loaded particles through experiments and simulations, taking inspiration from sensing in biological cells. It was adopted by international groups including Prof Van Hest (J.Am.Chem.Soc 2018, 140, 5356) and reviewed (Adv.Materials 2017, 29, 1606842); led to an invited commentary on related work (Nature 2016, 537, 627); seminar at the Berlin Centre for Complex Systems (http://www.bcsccs.de/events.html) and a collaboration on EU funded ETN CReaNet (812868, €4M), in which the principles will be exploited in the development of novel sensors with organisations including the Netherlands Forensic Institute.
