- A novel phase-resolved hybrid approach for efficiently simulating ocean waves, such as rouge waves, is developed by coupling three models with a methodology for automatically switching between models to maximise its efficiency whilst retains its overall accuracy at a fully nonlinear level. The approach has initiated collaboration with world-leading experts in rogue wave (e.g. A. Chabchoub doi:10.1103/PhysRevApplied.9.014016) and attracted a new EPSRC project on the floating wind turbine (EP/T00424X), because it is much more efficient than other methods for numerically modelling extreme wave kinematics/dynamics, which are essential for design, operation and maintenance in many marine engineering areas.
