- The production of this book of about 115k words, the first monograph on this topic in any language, demonstrates a sustained research effort, involving the use of complex primary sources on history of chemistry and crystallography, and of materials from archives in the USA, Italy and UK, as well as documents from a private individual. Although focussed on one scholar, it demonstrates a sustained research effort into twentieth-century French philosophy, history of science and ethnology, as well as current historiography and philosophy. The Appendix includes the first ever English translation of four talks, originally written in a difficult-to-render colloquial style.
