- This paper initiated the discovery of a new instability in the mixing of the overlying turbulent flow and low-momentum flow in semi-dense canopy flows. Due to the vertical orientation of the filaments, the high value of the wall-normal permeability induces low momentum jets towards the bed resulting in an instability at the bed. This finding has a significant impact on the sediment transport prediction models in nature, e.g. rivers and flood plains
