- This research monograph consists of nine chapters over 201 pages, and approximately 80,000 words. The underpinning project occurred over three years, involving archival investigation into a range of primary source materials such as policy documents, unpublished minutes, and correspondence. Various archives were consulted, including The British Library, The National Archives, Liverpool Record Office, and The National Football Museum. This monograph offers the first book length academic study of England’s hosting of and victory in the 1966 World Cup. Its extensive investigation results in the presentation of an original argument regarding the occasion’s importance as a moment within English modern history.
