- Lessons of Travel, based on 5 years of research, tackles French early modern dissertations on the best practices of travel. Through extensive research in over 10 French libraries, the corpus of such texts was extended from under 20 to over 80. The monograph identified numerous texts hitherto unknown to scholarship, but which had a significant impact at their time. The research extended to previously neglected manuscript sources, collected from six different archives, providing a background to the print publications, and often allowing radically different interpretations. At over 100.000 words, this works is a significant contribution to historiography and literary studies.
