- Double-weighted statement
- This book (of over 1,000 pages) is the result of an ERC-funded project directed by EWS, including four fieldwork seasons with large international teams and research over seven years by a multi-national team of specialists. It draws on a multi-lingual bibliography and numerous ancient, medieval and modern sources. EWS learnt to read Russian and (basic) Georgian during the project. He is the main author of chapters 1-9 and 25, appendices I-II and the conclusion, a co-author of chapters 15 and 21 and the editor of the remainder. Chapters 11, 13 and 17-20 are also by Edinburgh staff and students.
