- This book on postwar film culture in Britain involved the collection and analysis of a large body of primary historical material. This material was drawn from 13 archive collections, hosted in national, regional and local archives, and from 25 oral history interviews with film society activists conducted by the author over a six-year period. The scope of this primary research provided a foundation for the book’s in-depth analysis of six decades of the UK film society movement from different perspectives and in relation to a wide range of institutions of knowledge production: publishers, archives, exhibitors, universities and adult education bodies.
