- Double-weighted statement
- This 80,000 word monograph draws on several years of sustained research in numerous archives across the UK, as well as Hong Kong and Singapore. It utilises a wide base of sources (including thousands of colonial letters, newspapers, diaries, journals, import/export records, census materials etc.) to explore complex themes of race, migration and economic globalisation. These themes are considered in relation to Britain and China, and to a range of colonial contexts, including Singapore, India, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Australia, Hong Kong and the West Indies.
