- This 250-page book demonstrates sustained research effort. With majority of the 8 chapters produced over 2-3 years, some of the work for the book extended over more than a decade. It offers an original genealogical analysis of the term and penetrating analyses of several case studies that are individually equivalent to one output. As such, it investigates a given theme – meritocracy - in considerable depth, from different disciplinary perspectives, and in relation to different contexts (e.g. considering ‘meritocracy’ in different historical and geographical timeframes). It generates a range of new theories, including ‘the meritocratic deficit’ and ‘neoliberal justice narratives’.
