- This monograph is based on close engagement with the voluminous Foundling Hospital archives, notably the surviving apprenticeship records and Governors’ Minutes, as well as the existing secondary literature on the institution. Berry pieces together fragments of evidence to tease out richly detailed microhistories of foundling children, situating accounts of these children’s lives between c. 1740-1840 within a global history framework.
