- Resulted from EU FP7 project GETAWAY (265717) (http://bit.ly/FSEG_GETAWAY), this paper explores the effectiveness of a revolutionary new signage concept developed by the authors called Active Dynamic Signage Systems (ADSS), through an international perception survey and a full-scale evacuation demonstration. This concept won The Guardian University Ideas Bank Award 2014 (http://bit.ly/award_getaway). The concept has been commercialised in the UK by EVACLITE (https://www.evaclite.com/directional-safety-signage-systems) and in Australia by CLEVERTRONICS (https://www.cleverevac.com.au) with both companies bringing this innovative product to a world market. The work was selected as one of the best papers in the 5th HBIF Symposium for inclusion in the journal special edition.
