- This book is the outcome of four years of research. It is the first sustained exploration of the evolution of screen translation from the mass media era to today’s digital culture, across temporal and geographical contexts. Drawing on a range of theoretical and methodological perspectives, it engages with the artistic, economic, social and political dimensions of screen translation as a form of intersemiotic mediation pervading all aspects of social life since the 1920s. This volume pioneers the study of interventionist forms of audiovisual translation by virtual communities of activism and fandom.
