- This work took six years to research and write and is approximately 88,000 words in length. The research involved the acquisition of disciplinary knowledge and skills required to navigate fields that were new to the author, including existential philosophy, affect theory and musicology; in-depth studies of the literary works of three modern authors (Dostoevsky, Beckett, and Bernhard) and the critical corpora on them; and a consultation with the Thomas Bernhard Archive in Gmunden through his brother Peter Fabjan.
