- This replication study observed people using their bank cards to draw money at ATMs or in shops, in the UK, Germany and Sweden. We observed whether people shielded their PIN entry, or not. The differences between the practices of citizens aligned with their familiarity with card usage. We showed that engagement in protective activities is not determined by risk and effort. Social norms and influences are much more powerful. This paper is significant as a rare replication study, in a field where few are carried out.
