- Studies a fundamental problem for querying big data. It proposes to extend conventional query rewriting to bounded rewriting, to answer queries by accessing cached views and a bounded fraction of a (big) dataset under constrained resources. Invited extension of a PODS 2016 paper by TODS, the premier database journal. Only top-ranked PODS papers got invited to TODS. Huawei has verified that the theory improves performance of their mobile data queries by orders of magnitude (contact: Senior Director, Business Development). As a consequence, Huawei decided to invest in a joint lab with Edinburgh for open fundamental research, 7.5M GPB so far.
