- The paper is the main outcome of the British Academy-funded project 'Global production networks and regional development in Central and Eastern Europe' (SG132857). It bridges the gap between transport geography and economic geography by adopting the global production networks (GPN) perspective in research on air transport and setting a new research agenda. It led to another funded project – ‘The airport industry and regional development in Scotland’ (The Carnegie Trust, RIG007553). It has been cited in various high-ranked journals, including a paper written by the original proponents of the GPN approach on recent conceptual developments related to the GPN framework.
