- Factual information about significance: A key novelty here is the paradigm of keeping the newspaper itself as the visual/tactile interface, rather than requiring interaction with a secondary device (e.g. after QR code scanning). Significant contributions include: a new framework for understanding interactive paper experiences; design guidelines for an interactive paper interface and recommendations for content design; proof of the technical feasibility of relaying touch information from paper to a nearby mobile device; and demonstration of the potential for the right audio to enhance the printed word. This research made possible, and now underpins, a new £1.2M Digital Economy project, "Next Generation Paper".
