- The book is based on over three years of detailed research into hundreds of manorial court rolls. The research of childhood has been considered almost impossible through manorial sources, due to their complex nature. It was thought they generally ignored young people and dependants of manorial tenants. The book is therefore based on the collection and analysis of a large body of material which is difficult to access and complex in nature. The result draws on complex data which has been analysed in a multidisciplinary way, drawing on sociology, anthropology, archaeology as well as traditional historical research methods.
