- World-first experimental demonstrations are reported, which confirm the feasibility of using Bangor-proposed DSPs to: 1)seamlessly integrate traditional optical access networks, metropolitan area networks and mobile networks to address unprecedented technical challenges facing 5G networks, 2)transform the conventional strategy of designing/operating high-speed data networks, and 3)offer an effective means of introducing new networking functionalities. The work paves strong bases enabling Bangor to lead 17 partners (Huawei, BT and Fujitsu) in Bangor’s £6m DSP Centre to establish a rural area 5G testbed. BT/Huawei has also financially contributed one KESS project and two NRN projects to explore DSP's rich characteristics for other scenarios.
