- This monograph draws on original empirical work from a number of qualitative studies of people’s experiences of poverty conducted over a lengthy period of time, and through the (re) analysis of this work provides a significant contribution to debates about social class. It presents a complex argument that generates new theoretical approaches to the structural causes of poverty, in particular through the development of the concept of ‘poverty propaganda’. It also suggests ways in which current crises of poverty and inequality in the UK might be addressed.
