- The paper is closely linked to the development of the Eurocode EN1993-1-6 on shell structures and the new Eurocode EN1993-1-14: Finite Element Analysis (under development). The authors are on both working groups for these Eurocodes and in this capacity have found that the codes are lacking in some of the principal loading cases for the practising engineers to use, which are less conservative (currently up to 10% of the calculated failure load due to imperfection sensitivity). This paper provides the necessary parameters to close this gap for the base case of a band-loaded cylinder.
