- Daw and White (working with Prof. Vik Dhillon) developed the gravitational wave galaxy catalog (GWGC) published in Classical and Quantum Gravity, used by the group operating the SWOPE telescope to make the first observation of the optical counterpart to GW170817 described in this paper (page 2). Effectively, our work led directly to the detection of the optical counterpart resulting in first scientifically justified explanations for, e.g., origins of elements heavier than iron, origins of short hard gamma ray bursts, and the best upper limits on the difference between the speeds of propagation of gravitational waves and light.
