- This monograph of around 120,000 words is based on Watson’s translation of the so-called Epistula Apostolorum, a mid-2nd century gospel with a focus on events and dialogues between the resurrected Jesus and his disciples. The translation (part 1, chapter 2) breaks new ground in using the complete Ethiopic version (available in a significant number of late manuscripts) to fill in the gaps in the single damaged ancient Coptic manuscript. Four previously unedited Ethiopic manuscripts were collated, a critical apparatus was supplied, and in part 3 of the work textual and translational decisions were explained and justified.
