- Based on research conducted between 2007 and 2015, the book combines historical analysis (newly declassified Chinese language material from the Foreign Ministry Archives in Beijing, archives which are now closed) and 65 elite interviews to understand China’s engagement with nuclear politics since 1949. The monograph is the only discussion of nuclear order from an English School perspective in International Relations. In 2017, it was nominated by Professor Rana Mitter of Oxford University for the ECPR Hedley Bull International Relations prize. It has been praised in top journals like the China Quarterly, London Review of Books, International Affairs and Nonproliferation Review.
