- The work described in this paper was a pre-requisite for a wider research programme funded by the EPSRC (EP/I031545/1, £ 504,365) and the Leverhulme Trust (£193,422). Some of the results reported were obtained in a collaboration between UCLan and Heriot-Watt University.
The methodologies and concepts developed within this research have inspired advances in the deboronation and metallation of bis-carboranes and some of these further studies have resulted in collaboration with researchers from the Nesmeyanov Institute of Organoelement Compounds (Moscow, Russia).
