- This edited collection emerged from a two-day conference at the University of South Wales in 2012 organized by Matthews-Jones and Jones. Matthews-Jones had identified a gap in the scholarship of modern British History and approached Jones. Ten participants from this conference were subsequently invited to work up their papers for submission. One person was invited afterwards. The editors shared responsibility for 1) planning and submitting the book proposal, and 2) copy-editing individual submissions. The introduction was jointly authored with Matthews-Jones writing sections relating to the scholarly interventions representing 4198 words of a 5888-word introduction. Matthews-Jones also wrote a single-authored chapter (8400 words).
