- This volume is an extended and complex piece of research which deals with challenges to traditional religions that have arisen since the European Enlightenment, possible responses to those challenges, and the possibility of religious co-existence in the modern world. It critically examines the work of the most important writers on religion in that period to trace the development of thought about religion, address the problem of religious diversity and consider the possibility of religious pluralism. It is a sustained piece of research in intellectual history and the philosophy of religion.
