- This paper describes the first cavity enhanced measurements to significantly improve the sensitivity of a widely used biomedical in vitro diagnostics platform known as enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in 96 well microtitre plates. It directly arose from a granted US patent (US 8,325,342 B2, 2008).The work was partially funded by an EU FP7 project (CE-microArray, 606618) involving nine EU partners which led to the creation of prototype commercial grade cavity enhanced microplate readers. These are being further developed by a Teesside University spinout company Anasyst Ltd (www.anasyst.com).
