This paper initially involved collaborations between Ulster University and Nottingham Trent University, alongside discussions with medical professionals at Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry/Londonderry in N. Ireland. The first author, then a PhD student, is now a lecturer at Queen’s University Belfast and ongoing collaborations have further developed, including a recently accepted IEEE Transactions paper (TNNLS-2020-P-13805) with Gault and a visiting lecturer from Shenyang University of Technology (Li) on recurrency in fuzzy-neural systems.
