- This contribution reports the major achievements in the SmartRPAS project, which helps Police Scotland in their Search and Rescue operations. The system detects missing people from a long distance and in real time, by leveraging AI, computer vision and embedded computing technologies over a Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS). This work has led to trials in Scotland led by Police Scotland, and in Sweden led by Swedish Drone Rescue. The project has won the Scotland CeeD Industries Awards - Innovation Award 2020, shortlisted for Times Higher Education Awards 2020 -, and been reported by BBC Scotland.
