- ‘The Language of Jane Austen’ is the result of a substantial, sustained body of research on Jane Austen, over more than twenty years. Archival work on the project was undertaken during a Visiting Fellowship at Chawton House Library. The book adopts the techniques of literary stylistics in approaching Austen and considers the full range of her writing, including her juvenilia, letters and unpublished fragments. Her relation to her contemporaries is also a focus throughout.
