- This international (USA, UK), multi-institution (SHU, Washington, Rutgers, Idaho National Lab) research is crucial to understanding formation of nepheline in high level radioactive glasses, of direct environmental relevance and contributing to both US and UK radioactive waste cleanup. The work was funded by U.S. Department of Energy - Office of Environmental Management, grants DE-EM0002904 ($821k) and DE-EM0003207 ($650k); and Nuclear Energy University Programs, grant DE-NE0008597. This work further strengthened existing SHU-US collaborations and contributed to the co-sponsorship of 3 PhD studentships in radioactive waste glass at SHU (£120k) by the US Department of Energy in 2018.
