- Verb Second in Medieval Romance is the first book-length study to date offering a comprehensive comparative analysis of one of the most significant word order properties in Romance syntactic typology. It is the result of five years of original research empirically grounded in a meticulous survey of a hand-annotated corpus of texts in Medieval Sicilian, Sardinian, Venetian, Occitan, French and Spanish. A detailed analysis is offered of Verb Second and its relationship with null arguments, subject positions, the syntax-pragmatics mapping and main/embedded clause-type asymmetries.
