- Civil Society in Algeria is a single authored monograph based on extensive fieldwork in a sustained research effort over ten years (2007-2017). The evolution of the security situation in Algeria, following the decade of terrorism in the 1990s, added to the complexity of the research. Issues around trust meant access to respondents was difficult. The book nevertheless analyses a significant body of primary data and a plethora of materials. This includes interviews by the author with over 200 Algerian associations, as well as embassies, donors and international foundations based in Algiers and other MENA and European capitals.
