- This co-edited volume brings together some of the most senior and emerging scholars of ancient philosophy from the UK, US and Europe, to offer a broad range of perspectives on issues of philosophical authority and authorship (and their connection) in a wide variety of ancient philosophical texts and figures from early Greek to Hellenistic philosophy, including a comparative chapter on ancient Chinese philosophy. Bryan co-generated the project with James Warren and undertook 40% of the co-editing responsibilities, including: co-authoring (50%) the ‘Introduction: Authorship and Authority in Ancient Philosophy’ (pp. 1-19) [total 6,400 words] and editing seven of the sixteen chapters. Bryan is also sole author of one chapter ‘Reconsidering the Authority of Parmenides’ Doxa’ (pp. 20-40) [total 8,000 words].
