- This book is the product of research which spanned four years of full-time work. For the four substantial case studies the author accessed primary archival sources in multiple locations in the US and the UK, including the National Archives (Washington DC), the United Nations Information Center (DC), the Library of Congress (DC), the Bodleian Library (Oxford), and the National Archives (Kew). The breadth of the analysis was widened by the collection of a variety of data on twenty-one cases of recognition debate over the twentieth and twenty-first century.
