- This paper investigates the development of novel thermal protection system using multilayer concept for aerospace applications particularly for hypersonic condition. This was the first concept to develop multi-layered system for hypersonic applications. This paper has been cited by the research community working on ultra high temperature ceramics. One of the work packages in the EPSRC XMAT programme (£4.3M) about the joining of materials was based on this concept in joining C/C composites with multi-layered UHTCs. Currently, one PhD student is working on validating this concept using mathematical modelling at Kingston University.
