- The paper demonstrates two fundamental results for batch job processing in cloud computing environments. Firstly, it is possible to quickly and accurately estimate the computation required to complete a batch job using measurements from a small portion of the job. Secondly, it is possible to scale cloud resources so that the job is completed in a timely fashion while minimising the batch job cost. Our results have been applied in the start-up company Dithen [1] and they show that the computational cost can be less than half of the system used by the Amazon Web Services platform.
