- This book provides a detailed analysis of the most fundamental philosophical issues generated by cognitive science. It is wide-ranging in its scope addressing the following issues: the philosophical underpinnings of cognitive science; the nature and role of representations in cognition; the acquisition of concepts; the architecture of the mind; the acquisition of language; and, the relationship between the brain and cognition. It critically evaluates the most important views on these issues and by combining philosophical reflection with a deep knowledge of the empirical literature it reaches a distinctive conclusion as to the workings of the cognitive mind.
