- This monograph spans nine chapters and extends to 95,000 words. It is based on four years of extensive research spanning seven different archives in South Africa and the UK, alongside numerous digital databases. Furthermore, 17 oral interviews with key actors were conducted as part of the research process. It weaved together this diverse and fragmented primary source record to provide an historical analysis which reassessed the existing literature on South African foreign policy and the nation’s transition to democracy, to develop new insights into the very nature of the ANC as a liberation movement and political party.
